Puerto Galera Trip
March 8, 2009I once heard someone call Puerto Galera “the poor man’s Boracay.” Now, I haven’t been to Boracay (yeah, where have I been?), so I wouldn’t know how true that description is. But I do understand why Galera, in the last decade or so, has exploded to become possibly the most popular beach destination this side of Luzon: it’s accessible, convenient, relatively cheap–the equivalent of a quickie holiday, but still with glorious sun, sand and a nice tan to show off at the end of it all.
We went during the Holy Week of this year and as expected the place was quite crowded. It is highly advisable to ensure that you have a confirmed reservation during the peak season. But we went there with nothing but money for RoRo fare and some pocket money to buy food and other stuff, so we decided to stay in the shore, yes in the shore for 4 days. Public Comport Rooms/ Shower rooms are scattered all over the place and you can used it for 20 pesos.
Much of the crowd at White Beach are young and dynamic people and the young will certainly have good fun. If you want peace and quiet, the other beaches in the area may be more suitable. There is a good snorkeling area just a short boat ride of White Beach, which is also just off the beach coast it cost about 200 per person. Banana Boat Ride cost the same but i think snorkling is much way better than riding Banana boat ride for I think 30 minutes. Our budget cost only 1,500 - 2,000 pesos but we don’t miss all the fun and party at Galera! I enjoyed at cheaper cost! Now that is adventure.
